Феномен отсутствия корреляции между количеством клеточной ДНК (показатель С) и эволюционным уровнем данного таксона - в частности, у млекопитающих содержится 2-3 пкг ДНК на клетку, в то время как у некоторых амфибий и двоякодышащих рыб - свыше 100 пкг; также данный парадокс может быть отнесен к митохондриальной ДНК, размеры которой у растений намного больше, чем у животных, при примерно одинаковом числе кодирующих элементов.
